Renowned Kenyan writer and winner of Caine prize for African writing Binyavanga Wainaina has revealed that he is a homosexual . In a short essay entitled ” I am a homosexual, Mum” he reveals his sexuality, which comes amid growing anti -gay hostilities in Africa . The respected voice of literature and art on continent has sparked varied reactions and conversations . He is the co-founder of Kwani Trust and also the Director of Chinua Achebe Centre for African writers and artists.
Homosexuality acts are illegal in Kenya and many African countries , and this amid passing of legislation incriminating homosexuality in several African countries including Nigeria , Uganda, Malawi and Senegal .
